Peat Moss is a moisture-retaining substrate for terrariums, vivariums and humid hides. It can be used on its own or blended with compatible materials such as coconut coir, reptile bark or sphagnum moss to create a customised substrate mixture.

Peat moss is particularly useful in enclosures that require a moisture-retentive substrate. The appropriate substrate depth and moisture level will depend on the animal’s species and husbandry requirements.

Key Features

  • Moisture-retaining terrarium substrate
  • Suitable for humid hides and humidity-dependent setups
  • Can be incorporated into custom substrate blends
  • Useful for naturalistic and planted enclosure designs
  • Suitable for selected reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates
  • Available in 2L, 8L and 25L variants

Directions and Care

Add the required depth of peat moss to the enclosure or mix it with other appropriate substrate components. Add moisture gradually and monitor the enclosure with an accurate hygrometer. The substrate should not be kept waterlogged unless specifically required by the housed species.

Spot-clean waste promptly and replace the substrate when it becomes contaminated, develops an unpleasant smell or shows excessive fungal growth. Always research the substrate requirements of the particular animal before use.
